What is good about having a pet?

What’s Good About Having a Pet? Everything. Absolutely Everything. Life is a lot. Work emails. Rent. That person who chews too loud in close proximity. But then, in walks your pet — tail wagging, eyes sparkling, shedding fur like it’s confetti — and suddenly, the world doesn’t seem so bad.

Pets are tiny emotional support therapists who work for snacks and vibes. Your cat doesn’t care if your presentation bombed. Your dog doesn’t judge your three-hour doom scroll. Your hamster thinks your whole life is a fun maze of possibilities (and crumbs).

They remind us to play, to nap without guilt, and to find joy in small things—like cardboard boxes, squeaky toys, or that one weird corner of the couch that apparently holds the secrets of the universe.

And science agrees: pets lower stress, boost happiness, and even help your heart. (Which makes sense—how could you not melt a little when your pet looks at you like you hung the moon and opened the treat jar?). But maybe the best part? Pets love you like you’re the most fascinating creature on Earth, even when you’re eating cereal for dinner in yesterday’s sweatpants. It’s unconditional, unfiltered, and the kind of love that makes all the messes worth it.

So yeah, what’s good about having a pet?
Everything.
Except the vet bill. Definitely not the vet bill.
