Step aside, haunted houses and creepy dolls — horror just found a new home: the football field. Yes, you read that right. A football horror movie.

Jordan Peele, the master of turning everyday things into nightmare fuel (Get Out, Us, Nope), has produced a brand-new cinematic fever dream called Him. And it’s out in theaters today.

What’s the Deal With Him?

Directed by Justin Tipping and produced by Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, Him follows the story of Cameron “Cam” Cade, played by Tyriq Withers. Cam is a young quarterback with NFL dreams. But after a devastating injury, he finds himself at a crossroad.

Enter Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans — Forget the slapstick you know him for. Here, he’s brooding, terrifying, and almost too good at playing “mentor-turned-monster”-who knew he could be this menacing?), a retired football legend with charm, swagger, and possibly… a pact with something not entirely human. Isaiah takes Cam under his wing at his private training compound, where mentorship turns into manipulation, and touchdowns turn into terrifying trials.

Julia Fox also shows up as Isaiah’s glamorous influencer wife, adding a dash of social-media-meets-horror energy. Think Instagram reels but with blood.

It’s Not Just About Football

Sure, there are plenty of helmet-smashing hits and training sequences, but Him isn’t just a sports drama with a spooky filter. Like all Peele-adjacent projects, it’s layered with commentary:

  • The Cult of Sports Heroes: How far do we worship athletes, even when it’s unhealthy?
  • Soul Bargains: If you could be the greatest of all time, would you sell your soul (or worse)?
  • Religion & Rituals: Isaiah’s mansion isn’t just a gym — it’s a shrine. Expect creepy ceremonies mixed with game-day metaphors.

Basically, if you ever thought sports fandom already felt a little like a cult… this movie runs with it.

The Buzz

Critics are calling Him a bold swing. Some love its weirdness, others think it’s a hot mess — but almost everyone agrees it’s something you haven’t seen before. The horror elements are gnarly (yes, there will be blood), and the social commentary runs deep.

It’s the kind of movie that will have you and your friends debating for hours after the credits roll. Did Cam get what he wanted? Or did he just get played by the game itself?

Why You Should See It

  • You’ll never look at football the same way again.
  • It’s spooky season, and what’s better than a brand-new horror flick?
  • Marlon Wayans in serious horror mode is worth the ticket alone.
  • Peele’s track record means even his “experiments” are more creative than 90% of what’s out there.

Final Whistle

Him isn’t just another sports movie. It’s a twisted mashup of Friday night lights and full-blown fright. Whether you’re a die-hard horror fan, a football junkie, or just someone curious about how far Peele can push the genre, this movie is ready to tackle your expectations — and probably sack them into the dirt.

So grab your popcorn, leave your playbook at home, and get ready: in Peele’s world, the scariest thing on the field isn’t the opposing team… it’s your hero.
